Skiing & snowboarding

Whatever your heart desires when it comes to winter sports, you're almost certain to find it in Obertauern. At an altitude of between 1,800 and 2,200 metres, you can count on perfect conditions for skiing and boarding from mid-November right through into May.

Tip: night skiing

Every Monday and Thursday you can make your day on the slopes last longer: from 7 to 10 pm on the Edelweiss 4 chairlift.

We're the lucky ones. Because we live right in the middle of a winter wonderland. Come to Sankt Georg, and we'll share it with you!

Winter walking & snowshoeing

Away from the slopes, too, winter in Obertauern is a joy: winter walking and snowshoeing show you the quieter side of the area. With varied routes on the Gnadenalm, the World Cup trail or the Hundsfeld trail, there are plenty of ways to enjoy winter at a slower pace.

Gnadenalm

We warmly recommend a trip to the Gnadenalm to anyone who wants to experience even more of winter. Just four kilometres from the centre of Obertauern, a wonderful variety of activities awaits you: tobogganing, romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides, cross-country skiing or biathlon, winter walking or snowshoeing, plus ice skating and Austrian-style curling.

Snowkiting

Our tip for an extra thrill? A snowkiting course at Austria's first snowkite school! Let the pros kit you out and guide you as you sail towards the sun on skis or a snowboard, pulled by a kite. An unforgettable experience – beginners welcome!

As well as relaxation, many people are also looking for a thrill on their winter holiday. In Obertauern, we cater for that too. Ice climbing, for example: on a course at the Gnadenalm, you'll learn to move on the ice with sensitivity and agility.

Cable cars

You don't need to strap on your skis to enjoy Obertauern's phenomenal mountain scenery. Our lifts whisk non-skiers straight up the mountain, too. Take the Grünwaldkopfbahn and the Zehnerkarbahn, for example – both just a few minutes' drive from Sankt Georg.
